Background: Entrance of heavy metals into the respiratory system has adverse effects on human health. Accordingly, measuring metals concentration in places and times is necessary. Objectives: This study was done to evaluate the non-carcinogenic risk of Pb, Cd, and As in air suspended particles of Baharestan city, in Isfahan, during 2016 -2017. Methods: In order to evaluate the non-carcinogenic risk of heavy metals in air suspended particles (PM10), sampling was performed using a SKC pump with a low volume (1.5 L/min) and 37 mm membrane filter. Sampling was carried out on average every three days during 24-hours finally, the concentration of Pb, Cd, and As was determined using atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) and hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry (HGAAS), respectively. The acute and chronic non-carcinogenic risk of heavy metals sorption in the air was evaluated using the EPA method. Results: The highest and lowest Pb concentration belonged to May -June and October -November, with the mean concentration of 0.25 and 0.14 mg/kg, respectively. For Cd it was 0.017 and 0.009 mg/kg, respectively. Similar results were found for the air suspended particles. The highest and lowest Cd non-carcinogenic risk was observed for permanent residents of Baharestan city and the nondormitory students of this city with the mean of 3.1 × 10 -5 and 1.4 × 10 -5 , respectively. Conclusions:The results of this study showed that the non-carcinogenic risk of heavy metals was lower than the standard level during the study years. However, heavy metal accumulation can threaten human health, which needs more consideration.

Heavy metal pollution is a widespread problem and strongly affects human health through the food chain. In this study, the overall pollution situation and source apportionment of heavy metals in soil (Hg, Cd, As, Pb, Ni, Zn, Cu and Cr) were evaluated using various methods including geo-accumulation index (I geo), potential ecological risk index (RI) and positive matrix factorization combined with Geographical Information System (GIS) to quantify and identify the possible sources to these heavy metals in soils. The results of I geo showed that this farmland top soil moderate contaminated by Hg, other selected elements with noncontamination level. And the average RI in the top soil was 259.89, indicating a moderate ecological risk, of which Hg and Cd attributed 88.87% of the RI. The results of the PMF model showed that the relative contributions of heavy metals due to atmospheric depositions (18.70%), sewage irrigations (21.17%), soil parent materials (19.11%), industrial and residential coal combustions (17.43%) and agricultural and lithogenic sources (23.59%), respectively. Of these elements, Pb and Cd were came from atmospheric deposition. Cr was attributed to sewage irrigations. As was mainly derived from the soil parent materials. Hg originated from industrial and residential coal combustions, and most of the Cu, Zn and Ni, except for Pb, were predominantly derived from agricultural and lithogenic sources. These results are important in considering management plans to control the aggravation of heavy metal pollution and ultimately to protect soil resources in this region. In addition, this study enhances the understanding of heavy metal contamination occurrence in agroecosystem that helps predicting and limiting the potential of heavy metal exposure to people and ecosystem.

Metals in soils exert toxic effects on soil quality and human health. In order to carry out metal contamination assessment and human health risk assessment of agricultural soils, a total of 662 cultivated soil samples were collected from two industrially oriented towns and three agriculturally oriented towns of Shifang City, Southwest China. Various indices were applied to analyze the pollution levels of soils caused by metals (Cr, Fe, Pb, Sr, Ti, V, Zn, and Zr). The relatively high values of the geo‐accumulation index (Igeo) and the enrichment factor (EF) suggested that Sr, V, and Zn had cumulative trends in the soils. The average pollution load index (PLI) values of the industrial towns (1.19 and 0.99) were higher than those of the agricultural towns (0.92, 0.53, and 0.43), demonstrating the contribution of industrial activities to soil metal enrichment. The health risk assessment from the five towns indicated that Cr and V were the dominant contaminants in soils with high potential health risks. Dermal contact was the major pathway of the exposure of children and adults to Cr and V. This study improved the understanding of the pollution levels of metals in Shifang agricultural soils and put forward the necessity of minimizing the health risk of Cr and V in agricultural soil.
