Pollen micromorphological analysis of tribe Acacieae (Mimosaceae) with LM and SEM techniques

Abstract: The morphology of pollen grains of the 06 species of tribe Acacieae (Mimosaceae) belonging to one genus were investigated using scanning electron microscopic (SEM) and light microscopic (LM) approach. Lactic acid acetolysis method was used for (LM) while non‐acetolysis for (SEM). The species were examined for the both qualitative and quantitative palynological features. Qualitatively the pollen was studied for the shape, exine sculpturing, pollen shape, and pollen type. Oblate spheroidal shape of pollen was ob… Show more

“…Thickness of exine is 2.12 ± 0.113 μm. Sculpturing of exine is verrucate–reticulate but this result is dissimilar to Khan et al (2019). Perveen, Noori, Khan, and Qureshi (2015) conducted a study on the pollen morphology of allergenic pollen grains which are present in air of Karachi city of Pakistan.…”

“…The present investigation of morphological features of Poaceae pollen is based on LM and SEM from various locations in Islamabad, Pakistan. The morphological characteristics of pollen play a very important role in the field of taxonomy and classification, and most of the taxonomist rely heavily on these characteristics for correct identification at different taxonomic ranks (Khan et al, 2019). In this study, we investigated that palyno‐morphological feature of family Poaceae which plays significant role in classification and identification of the Poaceae taxa.…”

“…Within these disciplines, pollen morphology research is one of the most important tools used by modern taxonomists to identify and distinguish closely related classes. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to distinguish the species based on the exine ornamentation (Butt et al, 2018; Khan et al, 2019).…”

“…The pollen surface of N. lotus has verrucated ornamentation with microgranules, whereas that of N. nucifera has regulated ornamentation without microgranules ( Figure 1 c,d). The pollen micro-morphology evaluation using SEM analysis was also recorded as a useful tool to identify other plant groups, i.e., Hoya siamica complex species [ 12 ]; Betula utilis , B. maximowicziana , B. dahurica , B. pubescens , B. pendula , and B. humilis [ 13 ]; species members of Mimosaceae [ 14 ]; species members of Papilionaceae [ 15 ]; etc.…”
