This article examines the practices of multilocal residents of the Mazovian Voivodship. The research focuses on spatiotemporal arrangements, motives, activities, and the perceived influence of multilocal living arrangements. Analyses are based on selected materials obtained from semi-structured, problem-oriented interviews, which were conducted in 2022 as part of the preliminary research (n=11), and an online survey on a representative group of inhabitants of Mazovian Voivodship (n=996).

The aim of the article is to define the concept of mobility segregation during lifetime and to distinguish mobility segregation scope among two Warsaw (Poland) inhabitants characterised by lower social profile, who lived in homogeneous social environment. Mobility has become a new dimension of social inequality that should be taken into account in research on social segregation in increasingly polarised cities. It can be studied by qualitative methods that can contribute to quantitative-dominant research on segregation. In this paper, mobility segregation aspects are analysed through biographic interviews, using reconstructive-interpretative approach. It gives a novel method to study segregation during lifetime in a holistic approach and to give evidence of experienced segregation of individual inhabitants. The study revealed that mobility segregation may change throughout the lifetime. There were indicated “windows of change” when forms and ranges of mobility change resulting in the change of places regularly visited and social profile of people met there. However these relations are complex.

Celem artykułu jest usystematyzowanie zagadnień dotyczących badań nad nierównościami w przestrzeni miast – przede wszystkim na podstawie prac naukowców z Polski oraz z krajów Europy Zachodniej i Stanów Zjednoczonych, gdzie badania o tej tematyce mają dłuższą tradycję. Nierówności społeczne powszechnie uważa się za jedno z najważniejszych wyzwań współczesności. Wysoki poziom nierówności społecznych, wyraźny zwłaszcza w obszarach zurbanizowanych, negatywnie rzutuje na jakość życia ich mieszkańców. W artykule opisano współczesne definicje pojęcia nierówności społecznych oraz przedstawiono pojęcia bliskoznaczne. Wyjaśniono wpływ nierówności społecznych na codzienne życie mieszkańców miast. Omówiono także historię badań nad nierównościami oraz najczęściej stosowane podejścia badawcze. W ostatniej części przedstawiono aktualne kierunki badań i perspektywy rozwoju badań o tej tematyce w przyszłości.
