Polinização entomófila de abobrinha, Cucurbita moschata (Cucurbitaceae)

Abstract: -The objectives of this work were to determine the squash entomofauna in the region of Viçosa, Minas Gerais state, to study their behavior on fl owers and their importance for pollination, verifying the role of each pollinator. The most common species were Trigona spinipes (Fabricius), Trigona hyalinata (Lepeletier), Apis mellifera (L.) and Melipona quadrifasciata (Lepeletier). The visitation behavior of A. mellifera, M. quadrifasciata, and Bombus morio (Swederus) were similar. They visited fl owers for nectar… Show more

“…T. angustula bitaceae) flowers only visited once by T. spinipes produced no fruit, which may be due to insufficient amounts of pollen carried by workers of this bee species (Serra & Campos 2010). Their small body size is also important, because these bees only occasionally touch the stamens and stigmas, thereby reducing the chance of successful pollination.…”

“…Their small body size is also important, because these bees only occasionally touch the stamens and stigmas, thereby reducing the chance of successful pollination. In addition, these bees visit the flower individually, without group behavior, a foraging pattern characteristic of this species on other plants (Serra & Campos 2010). Thus, as pollinator, T. spinipes contributes little to fruit production (Serra & Campos 2010).…”

“…Among these insects, bees are the most abundant group of pollinators in agriculture visiting over 90% of the 107 main agricultural crops (Klein et al, 2006). Among the agricultural crops, a group of plants studied for pollination is the Cucurbitaceae family which mostly have separate female and male flowers, being dependent on pollinators to ensure the production of their fruits (Serra & Campos, 2010).…”

“…A família cucurbitácea, com cerca de 90 gêneros e 750 espécies adaptadas ás regiões tropicais e subtropicais de ambos os hemisférios, possui diversas espécies de importância econômica e alimentar, como por exemplo, Cucurbita moschata (SERRA & CAMPOS, 2010).…”
