The aim of this study was to determine whether a pneumoperitoneum of 10 mmHg combined or not with the Trendelenburg position could lead to significant changes in intraocular pressure (IOP), ocular pressure perfusion (OPP), and cardiorespiratory variables; as well as determine whether a correlation exists between IOP and mean arterial blood pressure (MAP), and/or partial pressure of carbon dioxide in arterial blood (PaCO2) in cats. Animals were allocated in two groups (n=7/group): GC (without inclination) and GTREN (Trendelenburg position). The variables were recorded before (baseline) and during 30 minutes (T5-T30) after insufflation. In GTREN, a reduction in heart rate was observed at T5 and in respiratory rate at T5 and T15. There was an increase in IOP at T5-T30 in comparison to baseline. There was a reduction in potential of hydrogen in arterial blood in both groups at all times in comparison to baseline. Partial pressure of carbon dioxide in arterial blood was increased at T15-T30 in GC and at T5-T30 in GTREN. In conclusion, the pneumoperitoneum of 10mmHg CO2 did not significantly affect IOP or OPP in cats anaesthetised with isofluorane and kept under spontaneous ventilation. However, induced pneumoperitoneum combined with Trendelenburg position resulted in an increase in IOP in cats subjected to the same anaesthetic conditions, but did not affect OPP.

PURPOSE:To describe video-assisted ovariohysterectomy (OHE) with two portals access in adult intact queens. METHODS:Fifty-two females cats were used. A 4 mm cannula was positioned in the abdomen through an incision close to the umbilicus (first portal), and a pneumoperitoneum was established. A second portal was positioned in the midline of the pre-pubic region. Females were positioned in right lateral recumbency to locate the left ovarian pedicle, and the uterine horn was held by a transcutaneous suture.The pedicle was cauterized and incised. The procedure was then performed on the contralateral ovary. The ovaries were exteriorized from the abdomen, along with the uterus, through the second access point. The uterine body was exposed, fixed and sectioned, and the abdominal incisions were sutured. RESULTS:Surgeries were performed in an average of 41.4±14.2 minutes. The main complications included hypotension (7.7%) and subcutaneous emphysema (7.7%), and 13.5% of the surgeries were converted to laparotomy. CONCLUSION:Ovariohysterectomy using a video-assisted technique and two access portals is safe, has minimal risks and is effective for the spaying of queens.

Pneumoperitônio é a técnica de insuflação com gás da cavidade peritoneal necessária para que haja uma boa visualização das estruturas anatômicas na cirurgia videolaparoscópica. Todavia, diversas alterações fisiológicas são relatadas em decorrência do pneumoperitônio, quais sejam por deslocamento e compressão de estruturas como o diafragma, alterando a fisiologia respiratória, e a veia cava caudal, comprometendo o pré-carga e o débito cardíaco, ou por efeitos sistêmicos decorrentes da absorção de CO2, por exemplo. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar as alterações hemodinâmicas do pneumoperitônio com CO2 em gatas anestesiadas. Foram utilizadas 10 gatas sadias, adultas, premedicadas com cloridrato de cetamina e midazolam e anestesiadas com isoflurano e submetidas a OSH por cirurgia laparoscópica com insuflação abdominal por CO2. As pressões diastólica, sistólica e média foram avaliadas de maneira invasiva por cateterização da artéria femoral e mensurada por um monitor multiparamétrico antes e depois do estabelecimento do pneumoperitônio. Os resultados foram formatados e submetidos à análise de variância e posteriormente analisados pelo teste t de Student e teste Tukey. As alterações em PAS, PAD e PAM observadas no decorrer dos procedimentos, entretanto, não configuraram diferenças estatísticas conforme as análises realizadas. Conclui-se, então, que a realização do pneumoperitônio com CO2 não provoque alterações relevantes na pressão arterial em gatas anestesiadas ou que estas alterações sejam fisiologicamente corrigidas por mecanismos compensatórios.
