Abstract

Pneumococcus, a human opportunistic pathogen, is capable of metabolizing host complex N-glycans. N-glycan degradation promotes pneumococcus colonization in the nasopharynx as well as invasion into deeper tissues, thus significantly contributing to pathogenesis.
