This paper deals with the design and Finite Element (FE) analysis of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) for wind turbines. Its performance is analyzed when the machine is equipped with two different types of AC-DC converters. The first converter type is a Diode Rectifier Bridge (DRB) and the second one is a Rectifier with Sinusoidal Current Absorption (RSCA). The numerical analysis goal is to compare the performance of the PMSG when these converters are connected across its stator terminals. The analysis aims at evaluating the machine efficiency, magnetic torque oscillations and other operation characteristics in the two cases. The numerical investigations are based on FE method implemented into Flux professional software package.
