Plipastatin A1 produced by a marine sediment-derived Bacillus amyloliquefaciens SH-B74 contributes to the control of gray mold disease in tomato

Abstract: Certain species have the capacity to produce cyclic lipopeptides and these lipopeptides are promising determinants contributing to the biocontrol of plant diseases. In the current study, a cyclic lipopeptide plipastatin A1 was isolated from the fermentation broth of a marine sediment-derived SH-B74 by the combination of solid-phase extraction and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, and its structure was identified by tandem mass spectrometry, high-resolution electro-spray ionization mass spe… Show more

“…Indole propionic acid and rotihibin-B for example were reported to have PGP activities (Pain and Roy, 1981; Fukuchi et al, 1995). Inthomycin-A, cyclo(L-Val-L-Phe), 5-deoxybutirosamine, and plipastatin A1 (Taylor and Schmitz, 1976; Webb et al, 2008; Guo et al, 2011; Ma and Hu, 2018) were reported to have biocontrol/antimicrobial activities. Similarly, GCMS analysis of VOCs from B. halotolerans BFOA1–BFOA4 revealed the presence of up to 38 VOCs in the volatile extract fractions of the different bacteria.…”

“…7,16 However, it has been recently confirmed that the configuration of Tyr 3 and Tyr 9 in fengycins and plipastatins is identical, being L-Tyr 3 /D-Tyr 9 . [17][18][19][20] Since the term fengycins is most 5 widely used than plipastatins, herein we employed the former term for the peptides of this study, but using the correct configuration. Fengycin lipopeptides have attracted considerable interest due to their strong antifungal activity and their low hemolysis compared to other lipopeptides isolated from Bacillus spp.…”

“…162 Page 2 of 7 (Niu et al 2011;Ma et al 2014), plipastatins (Ma and Hu 2018) and a group of uncharacterized CLPs (Ma et al, unpublished data). Bacillopeptin A, B, a recently identified new CLP bacillopeptin B 1 , and plipastatin A1 produced by the strain B. velezensis SH-B74 indicate direct antagonistic activity against a spectrum of plant pathogens, moreover, CLP plipastatin A1 has the capacity of controlling the infection of Botrytis cinerea (a causal agent of gray mold disease) in tomato plants.…”

“…The bacterial cultures and a crude extract of CLPs from the strain B. velezensis SH-B74 were prepared following a protocol published previously (Ma and Hu 2018). Subsequently, the fractions of different types of CLPs from the crude extract of the strain B. velezensis SH-B74 were separated using solid-phase extraction process as published previously (Ma and Hu 2018).…”
