Pleomorphic Adenoma of the Palate

Abstract: Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common mixed benign tumor of major salivary glands. Approximately 80% of these tumors arise in the parotid gland, whereas 7% arise in the minor salivary glands. The most common sites for minor salivary gland where pleomorphic adenoma arises are the palates followed by lips and cheek. We report a palate mass in a 46-year-old male patient. The initial cytologic diagnosis by fine-needle aspiration biopsy was pleomorphic adenoma. This report describes a case of pleomorphic adenoma r… Show more

“…PA occur primarily in the major salivary glands, such as the parotid gland, and rarely develop in minor salivary glands 1 . However, when they do develop in minor salivary glands, the most common site is the palate, followed by lips, buccal mucosa, floor of the mouth, tongue, tonsils, pharynx, retromolar region, and nasal cavity 1,2 . PA in the larynx are very rare, with fewer than 30 cases reported in the literature to date 2 .…”

“…Los tumores de glándulas salivales son poco frecuentes, y representan del 3 al 5% de las neoplasias de cabeza y cuello en los adultos. Alrededor del 80% se localizan en la glándula parótida, el 10% en la submaxilar y el otro 10% entre las glándulas sublinguales y las salivales menores (1).…”
