PLC-Based Pressure Control in Multi-Pump Applications

Abstract: -The paper is devoted to the centrifugal pumps represented the most popular type of pumping equipment used in different areas. The pressure control approach for variable speed driven (VSD) parallel connected centrifugal pumps is reported. The goal of the study is optimization of some quality indices, such as efficiency, consumed power, productivity, energy carrier temperature, heat irradiation, etc. One of them -efficiency -has been studied in the paper more carefully. The mathematical model of pumping process… Show more

“…At the same time, some works specify parameters of pumps and the hydraulic system. In particular, Arun Shankar et al [7] looks into cavitation and water hammer, and Vodovozov et al [4] -pressure. Papers [1][2][3]5] are devoted to control with the optimal operating point of the system determined by pump efficiency.…”

“…where, η drive -efficiency of the pump motor drive; ρfluid density; gacceleration due to gravity Unlike [17] where the drive losses were obtained from the manufacturer's documentation basing on the current torque readings, in this study all the possible drive efficiencies are preliminary estimated from the vector-controlled motor drive and stored in the lookup table before pumping to predict the future system efficiency at the required head inputs. Experimentation was done using a laboratory setup shown in Fig.…”

“…Some methods appeared for the real-time motor drive efficiency estimation. One of them, proposed in [17], addressed the drive manufacturers' documentation where the motor and power converter losses are collected for their part-torque operation at different speeds. It covers the necessity in accurate torque measurement and manufacturer's data extrapolation.…”
