Plastic limit speed of FGM disc due to the variation of temperature and material composition

Abstract: The knowledge of manufacture and analysis of functionally graded materials provides the production of rotating discs with more optimized characteristics. These characteristics may include less weight and more stiffness that consequently get more speed in rotating discs. Thermal stresses can be destructive even in uniform and steady temperature in structures made of functionally graded material due to the changes in material properties. This research studies the thermo-mechanical aspects of plastic limit speed … Show more

“…The Mori-Tanaka modified rule of mixture [10] is used to determine the properties by considering the ceramic volume fraction in each axial position. Some researchers have employed this rule effectively in the thermo-elasto-plastic and residual stress analyses [4,11]. Two more recent works [12,13] have utilized the Mori-Tanaka technique in bending, vibration and buckling study of the functionally graded plates with novel policies.…”

“…In these cases, the disks are assumed very thin and the material gradations are only carried out in radial direction [1,2]. Also, the termoelastic analyses of such rotating disks are based on the assumption that the heat conduction is in the radial direction [3,4].…”

“…Investigates limit elastic speed analysis of functionally graded rotating disks under thermal and mechanical conditions. The research explores various material models, disk profiles and aspect ratios, demonstrating their impact on disk performance through stress distribution, yielding location and validated by finite element analysis (Farimani and Toussi, 2013; Nayak and Saha, 2016). A Nonlinear electro-thermo-elastic analysis of a thick spherical functionally was performed and its results were compared with linear analysis.…”

“…In the field of rotating FGM discs, Kordkheili and Naghdabadi 6 and Bayat et al 7 have used the semianalytical solution to study the thermo-elastic stress fields of FGM discs. Rezaei Faimani and Ekhteraei Toussi 8 have worked on the thermo-plastic analysis of FGM discs. Eqlima et al 9 have performed the elasticplastic analysis of FGM rotating disks with variable thickness and temperature-dependent material properties under mechanical loading and unloading, though they did not focus on the residual stress fields, which could be an interesting aspect to be looked into.…”
