Plasmonic Enhancement of a Photocycloreversion Reaction of a Diarylethene Derivative Using Individually Dispersed Silver Nanoparticles

Abstract: The fabrication of silver nanoparticles covered with polymers with a well-defined core-shell structure and the quantitative evaluation of the plasmonic enhancement effect on a photochemical reaction in the vicinity of these silver nanoparticles individually dispersed in a medium are described. The photocycloreversion reaction of a diarylethene polymer in the vicinity of silver nanoparticles was enhanced by 2-6 times relative to the reaction without the nanoparticles. The promotion of the photocycloreversion re… Show more

“…The black curve is for the sample with GNRs 1, red curve for GNRs 2, and green curve for GNRs 3 concentration in the dried polymer is calculated to 9 × 10 −2 mol L −1 . Moreover, in other study, the samples were considered as consisting of isolated nanoparticles whether they were in solution [11,26] or deposited on a glass substrate [25]. They never exhibit coupling SPR modes which are present in our case.…”

“…In our case, the photochromic reaction induces a modification of the B2629 conformation, changing the local refractive index of the photochromic species surrounding the GNRs. Previous studies already emphasized that coupling photochromic molecules with plasmonic structures could lead to spectral modifications of the SPR modes [11,25]. But all these works deal with spherical nanoparticles, which exhibit only one SPR resonance.…”
