“…Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is a standard method for the treatment of certain congenital syndromes and a variety of autoaggressive diseases. Of these, systemic lupus erythematosus (1,2), Goodpasture's syndrome (3), Guillain‐Barré syndrome (GBS) (4), and glomerulonephritis can be improved by removal of pathological antibodies (5) or circulating immune complexes (6). Moreover, patients suffering from poisoning with toxins, irrespective of their nature, can also be treated by TPE, e.g., phalloidin, a toxin resulting from the ingestion of Amanita phalloides , can be eliminated from such highly endangered patients (3).…”
