Plasma total oxidant and antioxidant status after oral glucose tolerance and mixed meal tests in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome

Abstract: Matsuda's ISIs derived from OGTT and MMT can be used instead of each other, and interestingly, we found a decrease in TOS levels after OGTT in patients with PCOS.

“…Oxidative stress has been defined as an imbalance between the formation of reactive oxygen species, which cause oxidative damage, and the antioxidant defence system [1213]. The molecular damage caused by free radicals has been asserted to lead to many diseases, such as atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, and PCOS [12].…”

“…[32][33][34][35] Regarding ovarian pathologies, there is evidence that OS plays an important role in the excess of cellular proliferation observed in endometriosis. [36][37][38][39][40][41] Increased level of OS is associated with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and may play a pathogenetic role in the development of insulin resistance, [42][43][44] hyperandrogenism, 43,45 and chronic inflammation observed in this disease. [46][47][48] Lipid peroxidation and endoplasmic reticulum stress induced by OS are associated with tissue injury and disruption of normal physiology in several organs including the ovary.…”

“…Addition of LC in the oocyte culture can improve oocyte quality, which may be related to the reduction of GCs apoptosis and improvement of mitochondrial function [19]. It is believed that the supplement of LC is bene cial to alleviate the delayed embryonic development, high DNA fragmentation and abnormal blastocyst development after long-term culture mediated by the increased ROS [20]. Therefore, treatment with LC may have the potential to improve the quality of follicles and the pregnancy outcome of IVF-ET.…”
