Plasma studies of the permanent magnet electron cyclotron resonance ion source at Peking University

Abstract: At Peking University (PKU) we have developed several 2.45 GHz Permanent Magnet Electron Cyclotron Resonance ion sources for PKUNIFTY, SFRFQ, Coupled RFQ&SFRFQ, and Dielectric-Wall Accelerator (DWA) projects (respectively, 50 mA of D(+), 10 mA of O(+), 10 mA of He(+), and 50 mA of H(+)). In order to improve performance of these ion sources, it is necessary to better understand the principal factors that influence the plasma density and the atomic ion fraction. Theoretical analysis about microwave transmission a… Show more

“…12 Proton ratio from this source was lower than general ECR ion source at PKU partly because there was a large discharge chamber ( 64 mm) designed for cluster ions. 11,13 Microwave generated by magnetron is fed into the discharge chamber guided through circulator, threestub tuner, high voltage break, standard rectangular waveguide (BJ26), a three-layer dielectric and protective BN disk.…”
