Plasma Lipoprotein(a) Values and Severity of Coronary Artery Disease in a Large Population of Patients Undergoing Coronary Angiography

Abstract: To determine possible associations between lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] and the severity of coronary artery lesions, we measured lipid, apolipoprotein, and Lp(a) in a large population of Belgian patients (n = 1054) undergoing coronary angiography. In both women and men, univariate analysis demonstrated significant differences in the Lp(a) concentrations according to the severity of the coronary stenosis. However, after adjustment for possible confounding factors, many of these differences were attenuated, indicating… Show more

“…The lack of association between Lp(a) levels and various CHD scores is in agreement with several other studies [6,9,10]. However, in some studies in which patients without significant CHD in the angiogram were used as reference group a statistically significant trend towards higher levels of Lp(a) could be demonstrated in unselected patients as well as in patients with CHD and a history of previous MI [6,7,12,13,36,37]. In our study, patients with a history of MI within the previous 2 years had significantly higher Lp(a) levels than cases without.…”

“…49,78 Há relatos na literatura de que o valor preditivo da Lp(a) para DAC seria maior em mulheres. 79 Labeur et al (1992) 80 e Gupta et al (1996) 81 relataram a associação entre Lp(a) e DAC confirmada por angiografia, tendo sido observado um aumento dos valores de Lp(a) com o aumento da gravidade da DAC. As pesquisas envolvendo Lp(a) e DAC apresentam resultados controversos, altamente dependentes da população estudada.…”

“…Much attention has been paid to Lp(a), and increased concentrations have been associated with restenosis [7][8][9][10] , while other studies have shown contradictory results [5,[11][12][13] . Assessment of apoA, ApoB, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein and triglycerides due to their correlation with Lp(a) [14][15][16] have also been taken into account in these studies, with lack of unequivocal results.…”
