Plasma IL‐6 concentration correlates with clinical disease activity and serum C‐reactive protein concentration in chronic urticaria patients

Abstract: This study reinforces evidence that, apart from a local cutaneous inflammation, CU is associated with a systemic inflammatory response. Such acute-phase response is manifested by increased circulating IL-6, which varies along with CRP changes and may be related to the urticarial activity.

“…14 In another study, Kasperska-Zajac et al demonstrated elevated IL-6 and CRP levels in CSU patients, and a correlation between IL-6 and CRP concentration and the UAS. 15 Also, in the same study, decreases in IL-6 and CRP concentrations were observed during spontaneous remission. 15 In the present study, the serum concentration of CRP was significantly elevated in CSU patients, which is consistent with the results of previous studies.…”

“…15 Also, in the same study, decreases in IL-6 and CRP concentrations were observed during spontaneous remission. 15 In the present study, the serum concentration of CRP was significantly elevated in CSU patients, which is consistent with the results of previous studies. In addition, when the CSU patients were considered separately as severe and mild-moderate CSU groups, serum CRP levels were statistically higher in the severe group than in the mild-moderate group.…”
