“…Limited additional results on direct N 2 to nitrate electrooxidation have been reported, but are based on noble-metal electrocatalysts. A theoretical study 107 indicates a noble metal, such as IrO 2 (110), as an excellent catalyst because it limits the side oxygen evolution reaction. Avoiding this side reaction is undoubtedly a challenge.…”

“…Exciting developments have been recently proposed in producing fertilisers from the air by non-thermal plasma. However, they are limited to nitrate production, [108][109][110] while producing ammonia by nonthermal plasma is harder. Still, plasma-activated electrochemical ammonia synthesis from nitrogen and water has been reported.…”

“…The application of plasma‐treated water to potato leaves during the period of vegetative growth of potatoes provides an increase in tuber yield (Rashid et al, 2022). Activation of seed germination of pea, corn, rice and other crops is possible due to their wettability with plasma‐activated water (Rathore et al, 2022; Skarpa et al, 2020; Sze et al, 2021). For the widespread introduction of the plasma method of irrigation water treatment in agriculture, these individual laboratory experiments are clearly insufficient.…”

“…The fixation process applies plasma at the surface of air and water to form soluble reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS). The species include nitrate (NO − 3 ) and other forms of nitrogen compounds, which can all be used as fertilizers [5,7]. Plasma-assisted nitrogen fixation works under atmospheric conditions without emission of green house gases.…”
