Abstract:When a heavy ion beam passes through a plasma in reactor chamber, it scatters some plasma electrons in the direction perpendicular to that of beam propagation. The presence of such electrons causes an instability to deflect the beam from the target pellet. The instability is analyzed by coupled equations for density and temperature for the electrons, and numerical results are given.Since the scattering angle x is related to the impact parameter b, by cot (x/2) = b/b AB ,
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
