“…Therefore, the results of this study, besides being consistent with those of previous studies, [2][3][4]9,15 found that primary PCI could not eliminate the impact of high NT-proBNP level (>243 pg/ml) on MACO and 30-day mortality. This finding is clinically important because it suggests that this powerful biochemical marker can be used for risk stratification of AMI patients.…”

“…Although high plasma ANP was found to carry prognostic importance in univariate analysis in most of the studies in patients with acute myocardial infarction, the significance was lost when the ejection fraction was included in a Cox multivariate model in some studies [9][10][11]18] but not others [19][20][21]. Recently, Omland et al [10] showed that plasma BNP correlated with long-term prognosis independently of ejection fraction after acute myocardial infarction.…”

“…In th,e past decade, the prognostic value of natriuretic peptides has been confirmed in various diseases including acute myocardial infarction [9,10], and chronic heart failure [11] and even in a recent study of a community-based elderly population without car- [59][60][61][62][63][64][65] diovascular disease [12]. However, the prognostic importance of BNP and ANP in acute heart failure has not been addressed.…”

“…Fifthly, the prognosis for patients after acute myocardial infarction [24][25][26][27][28], or with established heart failure [29,30], is predicted by levels of cardiac natriuretic peptides or their amino-terminal peptides according to several authors.…”
