Plantar pressure sensing using loop antenna sensors

Abstract: Foot complications associated with diabetes might lead to foot ulcers. Foot ulcers if neglected can cause foot infection and subsequent amputation. Ulceration is believed to be contributed by stresses acting over the foot. Therefore, measurement of plantar pressures is important in diagnosis and foot ulcer evaluation. However, current plantar pressure measurement systems are either expensive or have a low resolution. This paper investigates the feasibility of employing a loop antenna sensor printed on a dielec… Show more

“…Pervious literatures also studied related measurement system. For instance, [4,5] studied the measurement system in-shoe and achieved expected effect. However, the pressure sensor used in the paper are piezoelectric film transducer and loop antenna sensors, which are different from the sensors used in this paper, and the literatures focused on how the circuit works instead the design of the whole system.…”

“…Load sensors and pressure sensors have been used for foot stress measurement due to its simple structure and low cost [9]- [12]. For instance, to measure the plantar pressure distribution, F-Scan and Pedar systems were developed using a pressure sensor array.…”
