Plantar Loading After Chevron Osteotomy Combined With Postoperative Physical Therapy

Abstract: Our results suggest that postoperative physical therapy and gait training with a Chevron osteotomy may help to improve weightbearing of the great toe and first ray. Therefore, we believe there is a restoration of more physiological gait patterns in patients who receive this postoperative regimen.

“…Moreover, Schuh et al . evaluated plantar loading after Austin osteotomy combined with postoperative physical therapy and found a significant increase in the mean maximum force as well as the mean force‐time integral for the big toe region. Recapitulating their data showed improved weight‐bearing of the first ray and the big toe followed by a functional improvement, which does not correspond to the results reported by other authors.…”
