Plant regeneration and morphology during in-vitro organogenesis fromHeloniopsis orientalis (Thunb.) C. Tanaka

Abstract: Heloniopsis orientali$ (ILiliaceae) is an important horticultural crop native to Korea. Under natural conditions, germination is poor and plant growth is delayed. Therefore, we have developed a vegetative propagation method to produce plants with vigorous growth characteristics via tissue culture. Leaf tissues were cultured on MS basal media supplemented with growth regulators 2,4-D, TDZ, BA, or zeatin. The regenerated shoots were then initiated directly from leaf explants on an MS medium containing either 0.1… Show more

“…Shoot regeneration from explants of leaves, cotyledons, hypocotyls, and protoplasts could prove useful for gene transfer via Agrobacterium (Cervera et al, 1998;Gonz~lez et al, 1998;Luo and }ia, 1998;Coll~n and Jarl, 1999;Cogan et al, 2001). Researchers (Cha et al, 2002;Thomas TD, 2002) require a means for comparing numerous variables in order to optimize the cell culture method. “…The Asian species are mainly distributed in Japan, Taiwan, Korea, and southern Sakhalin (Fuse et al, 2004). Heloniopsis are typically evergreen perennial herbs that grow in moist, well-drained soils rich in organic matter under mesic temperate deciduous forests (Ahn and Lee, 1997;Cha et al, 2002;Kawano et al, 2007). These species have evergreen rosette leaves that turn purple in the winter and rose-purple, hermaphroditic flowers that bloom in the early spring with great potential for ornamental purposes (Kawano et al, 2007).…”
