Plant Growth Promoting Bacterial Endophytes Isolated From Polish Herbal Plants

Abstract: Endophytes produce a wide range of compounds with high application potential, mainly in medicine and agriculture. In this study, we test the hypothesis that endophytic bacteria produce indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), have positive influence on plant root development and are possible to application as plant-growth promoters. Endophytic bacteria were isolated from 3 native growing plant species: Chelidonium majus L., Elymus repens L., Solidago gigantea L. All endophytic strains produced IAA and the highest levels of… Show more

“…Astorga-Eló et al [45] reported that B. laterosporus DSM 25 exhibited ACC deaminase activity in vitro. Also, several studies reported that P. azotoformans strains possess various growth promotion mechanisms, including N fixation, P and K solubilisation, the production of IAA, ammonium, and siderophores, and the exhibition of ACC deaminase activity [24,[26][27][28][29]43,47,59]. We previously found that B. amyloliquefaciens 33YE and Brevibacillus laterosporus 4YE produce a range of antimicrobial compounds, including antimicrobial peptides [35].…”

“…Most plant-associated bacteria can produce IAA ( Scott et al, 2013 ; Finkel et al, 2020 ) and there are a few reports of IAA production by E. persicina . For example, E. persicina 2-5b isolated from Chelidonium majus L. collected in Poland produced IAA while growing in LB medium ( Goryluk-Salmonowicz et al, 2018 ), and Liang et al (2021) reported that E. persicina isolated from Elymus nutans also exhibited IAA production ability. More importantly, IAA biosynthesis gene, iaaH , was discovered in the E. persicina Cp2 genome ( Okal et al, 1999 ).…”

“…Microorganisms inhabiting the internal tissues and intercellular spaces of plants without causing signs of pathogenesis are called endophytes [260]. Endophytes are commonly isolated from herbaceous plants [261][262][263]. The first study on the isolation of endophytic microorganisms resistant to TEs was published by Idris et al [264].…”
