Planar tri-band filter based on dual behavior resonator (DBR)

In this paper, we proposed a compact C-open-loop ring resonator and its equivalent circuit. The second cascaded bandstop filter (BSF) are designed using this simple C-ring resonator. The double ring BSF consists of two cascaded Cring resonators, which are placed on the RO4003 substrate, while the other triple BSF structure consists of tree cascaded C-ring resonators, which are connected with input and output through microstrip feed lines. The both filters are simulated, optimized and partially realized using MWR simulator and Anritsu E5072A vector network analyzer VNA. In order to reduce the size and to improve the filter characteristics, novel compact filter topologies are designed basing on the previous structures. The proposed multi-band BSFs consist of several open-loop ring resonators placed vertically overlapping (coupled multi-armed ring resonator). Using this idea, the filter topologies with design flexibility, close size and excellent results are reached. The novel compact multi-band BSFs produce several stopband along a frequency range from DC to 9 GHz, in which each separate band exhibits an acceptable and useful bandwidth. Each stopband has regenerated two reflexion zeros, what leads to a good sharpness factors in the transition domains. Good agreement between the experimental results, full-wave simulation has been achieved. Such compact and flexible filters can be successfully used in several microwave and in modern wireless and mobile/satellite communication systems.

Abstract-A high selectivity differential bandpass filter (BPF) using two pairs of dual-behavior resonators (DBRs) is proposed in this letter. A high selectivity passband for the differential mode with second harmonic suppression is achieved, by utilizing shorted coupled lines with two short stubs. For the commonmode (CM) circuit, the CM responses can be suppressed over a wide frequency band by the loaded open/shorted stubs. To validate the feasibility of the proposed filter, a planar differential BPF (3-dB fractional bandwidth 4.9%) with good CM suppression is designed and fabricated. The theoretical and measured results agree well and show good in-band filtering performances and out-ofband harmonic suppression performances.

Abstract-In this paper, we present a tri-band filter design using tri-mode T-shaped branches connected by λ/4 transmission lines. By analyzing the input admittance of a T-shape branch with commensurate electrical lengths, three resonant modes with two transmission zeros between are found and design formulas are derived. The filter can be regarded as a combination of three bandpass filters with only one set of coupling elements. To realize different bandwidths for each, the admittance slope of each resonating mode is set as required. A genetic algorithm is used in solving related equations to obtain the impedance of each line in a T-shape branch, followed by a final optimization. A three-pole tri-band filter having passbands of 0.6-0.9, 1.35-1.65 and 2.1-2.4 GHz, is designed, fabricated and measured with low passband insertion losses of < 0.7 dB and high rejection of > 60 dB between the passband regions. As a generalization, necessary to achieve a tri-band filter with arbitrary passbands, a non-commensurate version of the T-shape branch is introduced. An example filter design Liu, Dou, and Zhao is given with the passbands asymmetrically located at 0.7-1, 1.65-1.95, and 2.2-2.3 GHz. This technique is able to achieve good design flexibility with respect to bandwidth ratios. This is validated by studying the maximum impedance variations of a T-shape branch when the bandwidth ratios vary.
