‘Plain lignocaine’ vs ‘Lignocaine with vasoconstrictor’—Comparative evaluation of pain during administration and post-extraction wound healing by a double blinded randomized controlled clinical trial

Abstract: The patients who received Plain Lignocaine perceived less pain during injection of local anaesthetic solution when compared to patients who received lignocaine with vasoconstrictor. The early post-operative wound healing was better in patients anaesthetized by Plain Lignocaine.

“…11 In children, suboptimal analgesia can result in sleep disturbance, behavioural changes and vomiting. 12 Untreated pain leads to slower wound healing, 13 needle phobia, 14 hyperesthesia 15 and fear of medical procedures. 16 Undertreatment is an important cause of inadequate postoperative analgesia.…”

“…In none of them are the wound healing phases correlated with the outcome parameters. For example, Panneerselvam et al used the modified healing index of Landry et al to evaluate bleeding and incision margins at 1, 3, and 7 days after surgery. However, these parameters should be taken into account only in the first 3‐5 days after surgery.…”

“…Panneerselvam et al conducted a double‐blinded randomized controlled clinical trial comparing local anesthesia with lignocaine alone or combined with adrenaline in 50 patients using a split‐mouth design. The outcome was monitored with a modified version of the health index of Landry et al wherein the incision margin parameter was replaced with an alveolar osteitis parameter (present/absent).…”
