Notably, antibodies reactive to these T3SS components have been detected in serum (Jenkins et al, 2000;Li et al, 2000;Martinez et al, 1999) and milk samples (Manjarrez-Hernandez et al, 2000;Gavilanes-Parra et al, 2013;Altman et al, 2017) of patients infected with EPEC. The observation that maternal vaccination with single LEE-antigens (Intimin, EspA, or EspB) or their combination conferred similar levels of protection in the offspring suggests that antibodies against these antigens might act through a similar mechanism to confer protection.…”
