Chronic pain in children and adolescents is a common and debilitating health problem. This narrative review will give a brief overview on what pediatric chronic pain is and what treatment options there are for children and adolescents. The specific emphasis will be on pediatric chronic pain education and communication: this narrative review aims to show how important a good patient–health care provider relationship is—it builds the foundation for successful communication—and how this relationship can be established. In addition, we will present five steps that health care providers can perform to explain pediatric chronic pain to patients and their parents and what to keep in mind in their clinical routine. Our review is intended for pediatricians and other health care providers who treat pediatric patients with chronic pain but might feel uncertain on how to best communicate with them.

O transtorno depressivo maior (TDM) é um dos transtornos mentais mais comuns em crianças e adolescentes; embora a prevalência estimada seja de 5 a 6% em adolescentes de 13 a 18 anos e de 5 a 6% em crianças de 6 a 12 anos, há menos estudos para entender como os antidepressivos funcionam nessa faixa etária. Crianças e adolescentes apresentam sintomas depressivos indiferenciados, como irritabilidade, recusa escolar e comportamento agressivo, o que pode ser a principal razão pela qual o transtorno depressivo maior ainda é subdiagnosticado e não tratado em comparação aos adultos. Será adotada uma pesquisa bibliográfica desenvolvida a partir de materiais publicados em livros, artigos, dissertações e teses, a revisão bibliográfica, também conhecida como pesquisa bibliográfica, consiste em reunir os dados nos quais a investigação será baseada. O levantamento da produção científica acerca do tema proposto será realizado através de banco de dados disponíveis eletronicamente em sites como: Scientific Library Online (Scielo), Literatura Latino-americana e do Caribe (LILACS) e Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS). A decisão de utilizar antidepressivos em crianças e adolescentes deve ser baseada em uma avaliação completa da situação clínica, incluindo a análise dos riscos e benefícios, bem como o envolvimento ativo dos pais ou responsáveis legais na tomada de decisão. Em conclusão, o uso de antidepressivos em crianças e adolescentes requer uma abordagem cautelosa e individualizada, levando em consideração os aspectos clínicos, riscos potenciais e envolvimento dos profissionais de saúde mental. A segurança e o bem-estar desses jovens devem ser priorizados, garantindo que o tratamento seja realizado de forma adequada e segura.

Objectives: To explore participants' views regarding clinical use of deceptive placebo (DP) and open-label placebo (OLP) treatments. Design: Qualitative thematic analysis. Methods: We conducted eight semi-structured interviews with healthy participants in an experimental trial comparing the efficacy of OLP and DP (Clinical trials n°NCT03934138).Interviewees' opinions were solicited following administration of placebos during the trial. Interviews were analysed using data-driven analysis. Results: We identified three themes. First, participants considered trust central in judging a placebo treatment to be acceptable. They expressed the importance of an implicit trust both in their health care professionals' (HCPs') competency as well as in the profession at large. A second theme was the perception of how placebo treatments might solve health problems. Acceptability of both types of placebo treatments was dependent on the perception patients had about the treatment solving their problem and/or doubts regarding the effectiveness of placebos The third theme encompassed perceived risks associated with placebo prescribing.
