“…Second, and perhaps more importantly from the innovation standpoint, the work has embraced the idea of innovation Marshallian industrial district (iMID) effects which, contrary to what we could expect, shows that IDs have a net ability to generate innovation that is above the average in the economy and, in addition, is maintained over time. In this regard, it is worth highlighting the work of Boix and Galletto (2009), who proposed a measurement methodology, Boix and Trullen (2010), who considered the relationship between IDs, innovation and the I-districts effect, and a more recent paper by Boix, Galletto, and Sforzi (2018) analysing the long-term evolution of effects of industrial districts in Spain throughout 1991-2014. The concept of IDs has even been raised as an industrial development strategy for Spain by Trullén (2002), naturally supported by the basis of contributions by Beccatini and Marshall.…”
