Pixel-level Bayer-type colour router based on metasurfaces

Abstract: The three primary colour model, i.e., red, green, and blue model, based on the colour perception of the human eye, has been widely used in colour imaging. The most common approach for obtaining colour information is to use a Bayer colour filter, which filters colour light with four pixels of an imaging sensor to form an effective colour pixel. However, its energy utilization efficiency and colour collection efficiency are limited to a low level due to the three-channel filtering nature. Here, by employing an i… Show more

“…Foveon X3 sensors capture all incident light (three colors) within the same pixel without having three separate color channels ( 101 ). An image sensor with a color router can directly detect the entire color content without using a filter to select the intended color channel ( 102 , 103 ). Second, a higher color depth (also known as bit depth) in each pixel can further improve hyperspectral learning to avoid metamerism such that different spectral profiles result in the same RGB values.…”

“…A multiwavelength optical nanorouter is an important device in full-color imaging and microspectrometer . The traditional image sensor array consists of a series of microlenses and/or filters, which increase the complicity and unfavorably reduce the optical efficiency. , However, this issue can be addressed by replacing them with a metasurface-based multiwavelength router.…”
