PIXE in the studies of stable cesium sorption from water solutions

Abstract: The possibility of cesium content evaluation by the particle induced X-ray emission method from X-ray emission L-shell at sorption from water solutions has been investigated. Consideration has been given to the processes of dynamic cesium sorption by zeolites from water solutions. The technique has been developed for preparing targets analyzable in the proton beam of energy up to 2.0 MeV. The relationship has been determined between the cesium content and the intensity of X-ray emission L-shell.

“…42,135 Synthetic zeolites can be made with a wide range of pore structures and they have shown a higher potential for trapping various contaminants from air and water, 122,136 but also for separation of oil-water mixtures, 137 control of N 2 O emissions and radioactive sorption from water and wastewater. 81,[138][139][140] Synthetic zeolites such as ZSM-5 141 and MFI 142 have shown a high efficiency in the remediation of pollutants such as radon (Rn), cesium (Cs) and strontium (Sr) radionuclides from wastewater, and a significant adsorption capacity for all ions and toxic metal ions (Cr 3+ , Ni 2+ , Zn 2+ , Cu 2+ and Cd 2+ ). 141,143,144 Moreover, synthesized zeolites from fly ash demonstrated a high capacity as adsorbents in removing heavy metals from aqueous solutions and wastewater.…”
