Background:Pityriasis rosea is a papulosquamous disease. It may occur during pregnancy; in this setting, it has occasionally been associated with adverse outcomes.Purpose:A woman who developed pityriasis rosea at the beginning of her eighth week of gestation is described. The outcomes in newborns delivered by pregnant women who developed pityriasis rosea during gestation are summarized.Method:A 28-year-old woman developed pityriasis rosea during her eighth week of pregnancy. Her husband had pityriasis rosea two months earlier. PubMed was searched for the following terms: conjugal, craniosynostosis, newborn, pityriasis, pregnancy, rosea, sagittal, spouse. The papers were reviewed and the references cited were evaluated.Results:Our patient delivered a healthy male infant after 41 weeks of gestation. He had normal weight, height, and Apgar scores. Isolated sagittal craniosynostosis was diagnosed and was successfully treated at nine weeks after birth without complications.Conclusion:Several retrospective studies have investigated the possibility of adverse outcomes in infants born to women who developed pityriasis rosea during pregnancy, such as stillbirth, low gestational weight, hypotonia, and premature delivery. However, there are also reports of healthy newborns in women who have had pityriasis rosea during gestation. Our patient carried the fetus one week post-term and delivered a healthy boy via C-section; isolated sagittal craniosynostosis was later diagnosed and successfully repaired. The occurrence of craniosynostosis in a woman who developed pityriasis rosea during her first trimester of pregnancy may be two coincidental events.

Pitriyazis rosea (PR) sıklıkla gövde ve ekstremiteleri tutan, kendini sınırlayıcı, yaygın görülen akut, papüloskuamöz bir hastalıktır. Tipik olarak çocuk ve genç erişkinleri etkiler. On yaş altında nadirdir. Çocuklarda görülen PR ile ilgili az sayıda çalışma bulunmaktadır. Bu nedenle PR'nin çocuklardaki klinik seyrini ve özelliklerini belirlemek için bu araştırmayı yapmayı amaçladık. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Dermatoloji polikliniğine başvuran ve klinik ve/veya histopatolojik olarak PR tanısı alan 0-16 yaş arası 67 çocuk hastanın dosyası yaş, cins, lezyonların yerleşim yeri, madalyon plak varlığı, kaşıntı, yakınma süresi, öncesinde üst solunum yolu enfeksiyonu ya da prodromal semptom varlığı, aile öyküsü, atopi öyküsü ve ilaç öyküsü açısından incelendi. Bulgular: Çalışmaya dahil edilen 67 çocuk hastanın yaşları 6 ay-16 yaş arasında olup, yaş ortalaması 9.22, pik yaşı 11 (%17.9) olarak bulundu. Yirmi dokuz erkek (%43.3), 38 (%56.7) kız hasta mevcuttu. On yaş ve altında 36 (% 53.7), 4 yaş ve altında 10 hasta (%14.9) vardı. Dört hastada (%6) atopi öyküsü saptandı, hastalık süresi 3 gün ile 4 ay arasında (ortalama 17 gün) değişmekteydi. Öncü lezyon ile ikincil lezyonlar arasındaki süre 3 gün-1 ay (ortalama 9 gün) arasındaydı. Lezyonlar en sık gövdede izlendi. Lezyon öncesi üst solunum yolu enfeksiyonu öyküsü 4 hastada (%6) vardı. En sık görüldüğü mevsim sonbahardı (24 hasta, %35.8). Madalyon plak % 97 oranında gözlendi ve en sık gövdede lokalizeydi. Atipik PR'li hasta sayısı 13 (%19.4)'dü (5 lokalize, bir papüloveziküler, bir çift madalyonlu, 6 persistan). Sonuç: PR, erişkin ve çocukta klinik olarak birbirinden büyük ölçüde farklı değildir.

IntroductionPityriasis rosea is a sudden-onset and self limiting disease with specific skin rash. The exact etiology is still not clear.AimTo determine epidemiological, etiological, clinical and histopathological features in pityriasis rosea (PR).Material and methodsFifty two patients (older than 18 years) with PR were included in this study. Patients were examined for epidemiological and etiological features. Biopsy specimens obtained from secondary eruptions were histopathologically evaluated with hematoxylin-eosine and immunohistochemically evaluated with CD3 and CD20 monoclonal antibodies.ResultsAge range of patients was 18–53, mean age was 29.3 ±9.5 and women-to-men ratio was 1.08/1. Thirty-nine (75%) patients had a history of wearing new clothes, 27 (51.9%) patients had a history of recent respiratory tract infection, 15 (28.8%) patients had a history of recent gastrointestinal infection. Eczematous changes were detected in biopsy materials by histopathological evaluation, and cellular infiltrate was positively stained with pan T-cell marker CD3 and negatively stained with B lymphocyte marker CD20 in all biopsy materials in immunohistochemical examination.ConclusionsIn our study, frequency of pre-disease infection and prodromal symptoms history were determined to be higher than the results of similar studies in the literature. These higher results suggest that PR may be delayed-type hypersensitivity to an infectious factor. However, positive staining of all biopsy materials with pan T lymphocyte marker CD3 supports the association with cellular immunity. We believe that more extensive studies are needed on this issue.
