Pion production from a critical QCD phase

Abstract: A theoretical scheme which relates multiparticle states generated in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions to a QCD phase transition is considered in the framework of the universality class provided by the 3-D Ising model. Two different evolution scenarios for the QGP system are examined. The statistical mechanics of the critical state is accounted for in terms of (critical) cluster formation consistent with suitably cast effective action functionals, one for each considered type of expansion. Fractal propertie… Show more

“…We apply such an algorithm (Antoniou et al, 2001) which produces a random Levy walk in a two dimensions space with a controlled truncation. This algorithm provides that the components x of the walk is given by: x=b(1−gχ ) −1/µ .…”

“…Indications of the critical point are visible in C+C and Si+Si collisions at 158A GeV [2] . Theoretical studies predict density fluctuations of zero mass σ particles produced abundantly in nuclear collisions at the critical point [3]. These fluctuations should obey a power law which reflects the critical nature of these density fluctuations.…”

“…These fluctuations should obey a power law which reflects the critical nature of these density fluctuations. The sigma states can be identified with π + π − pairs of invariant mass distributed near the two-pion threshold [3,4]. The second factorial moment of the number of pion pairs (with invariant masses above the Coulomb correlation region) with increasing number of 2-dim cells M 2 in transverse momentum space was analysed for real data and mixed events [4].…”

“…Ability to study jet textures at soft, as well as high, p T means that the study promises to be very informative because majority of the reconstructed tracks will be utilized. CMC is Critical Monte Carlo generator created by N.Antoniou and coworkers 8 . In the framework of an effective action approach, these authors simulate a system undergoing a second order QCD phase transition.…”
