Pion Double Charge Exchange onHe4and Meson Exchange Currents

Abstract: We have measured the differential cross section cfto/d®, dT and estimated the total cross section u T for the double charge exchange reaction 4 He(7r + ^') Ap at 140, 200, and 295 MeV. The values for cr T are at least an order of magnitude larger than predictions based on sequential single charge exchange ir-N scatterings. It is possible, therefore, that 4 He(7r + ,7r") is dominated by other processes, such as the formation of a A in the intermediate state or scattering from meson exchange currents.PACS numb… Show more

“…Binding effects were not included, but the resonance width was modified to account for Pauli blocking and absorption. The results of their calculation agreed qualitatively with the existing data, though they exceeded the measurement of Stetz et al [14] and did not reproduce its energy dependence.…”

“…Pion spectra and total cross sections for pion double charge exchange were also measured in Refs. [40][41][42] for different incident pion energies. No evidence for 4 n was obtained.…”
