Pinch Analysis for Energy Optimization

Abstract

This article describes several methods in pinch analysis for energy and process integrated optimization. First, the energy targeting method is illustrated, which is a very powerful tool for identifying energy‐saving opportunities. Second, the network pinch method is discussed, which is used for determining cost‐effective HEN modifications. Finally, the process integration method for identifying process changes is explained. It has been demonstrated through many applications that integrated energy and process improvements can achieve much more significant benefits than doing energy modifications alone.
