“…In this procedure, besides widening the nail bed by our modified 5-flap z-plasty technique, the osteophytic bone tissue located on the dorsal surface of the distal phalanx is removed to provide a flat surface for the nail bed. As suggested by earlier colleagues 3,12,13 we also believe that rongeuring the osteophyte, which is a pathognomonic finding of PND, is an essential step in surgical correction of this deformity. By flattening the dorsal surface of the distal phalanx, and remarkably widening the distal part of the nail bed where the width index of the nail is particularly decreased, this new technique provides an efficient correction of PND.…”
