Abstract

Hyperpigmentation is a common dermatological condition that can have an impact on both one's appearance and one's quality of life. It is distinguished by the presence of a mask-like zone on the skin's surface, which is frequently associated with the development of melasma, ephelides, and lentigines. It can be idiopathic or iatrogenic, and it has been linked to pregnancy, peri-orbital hyperpigmentation, and other skin conditions. This review focuses on the most recent cutting-edge research on the cellular and biochemical mechanisms of melanogenesis, with a particular emphasis on the use of herbal phytoconstituents as a substitute to reduce the likelihood of negative drug reactions and side effects associated with traditional treatments, emphasizing their biodegradability and reducing side effects.
