“…These characteristics can also be found in other system variables such as vibrations [6][7][8]. Furthermore in the state of research many topics regarding bearing actuation with the goal to reduce the vibration of the powertrain are found [9][10][11][12][13]. These approaches and control concepts focus on control strategies.…”

“…Examples of applications of these actuators can be found, for example, in publications [15][16][17][18]. The use of actuators that work on the piezoelectric principle for vibration suppression in two axes is described, for example, in articles [19][20][21]. Although these actuator applications are interesting in this overall overview, none of them directly corresponds to the application of vibration suppression of long, slender and massive structures such as machine tool rams.…”

“…To improve the operational efficiency of high-speed rotating machineries, there is a growing demand in the development of active bearing devices which could control the machine’s operation. Active bearing configurations consisting of hydraulic servo systems, 1 controlled lubrication mechanism through pad orifices, 27 variable impedance bearings 8,9 and bearing with piezoelectric pushers, 1017 movable flexible sleeve 18–22 and adjustable pads 2328 are developed by various researchers. These bearing configurations were designed to be implemented in industrial applications to overcome the limitations of conventional fluid film bearings in controlling the journal motion during operation.…”

“…The concept of movable bushing driven by piezoactuators was then experimentally tested by Tuma et al. 15,16 to identify the feasibility of the proposed method on eliminating the rotor instability problems. Tests on the rigid shaft supported by two controllable bearings indicated an improvement in the operational speed ranges of the rotor system.…”
