Piezoelectric Actuators for Distributed Vibration Excitation of Thin Plates

Abstract: The behavior of two dimensional patches of piezoelectric material bonded to the surface of elastic distributed structures and used as vibration actuators is analytically investigated. A static analysis is used to estimate the loads induced by the piezoelectric actuator to the supporting elastic structure. The theory is then applied to develop an approximate dynamic model for the vibration response of a simply supported elastic rectangular plate excited by a piezoelectric patch of variable rectangular geometry.… Show more

“…Introduction; singular estimates for coupled PDE systems. The present paper sets itself along that line of research established by [1,3]-and later streamlined and simplified in the exposition of [16]-that is focused on mathematical properties of an accepted acoustic chamber model [8,31], subject to unbounded control action on its flexible wall.…”

“…Model (1.12) for Ꮾ arises when the control action is exercised on Γ 0 via piezoceramic elements [8]. Then for Ꮽ and Ꮾ as in (1.11), (1.12), one readily shows, on the strength of Sobolev embedding, that the constant r of Assumption 1.2 is (see [3], [25, page 890]):…”

“…Crawley and Lazarus 7 developed piezoelectric sensor and actuator relations using equivalent line moments. This work was extended by Tzou and Tseng, 8 Dimitriadis et al, 9 Lester and Lefebvre, 10 Song and Librescu 11 and others. Saravanos and Heyliger 12 developed a unified approach for laminated beams with incorporated piezoelectric elements.…”

“…In the asymmetric disposal of Fig. 6-a, the PZT patch excites the 2D structure with pure bending, that can be simulated with the numerical model developed in [23]. In this paper it is assumed that the strain slope is continuous through the thickness of the glass plate and of the PZT patch, but different along the directions parallel to the plate sides, that in turn are assumed parallel to the coordinate axes (the strain slopes are billed C x and C y ).…”
