“…Therefore, to ensure sustainability in a plant-based economy, it is of utmost importance to adopt effective strategies that can restrict the losses associated with biotic stress. Several agrochemicals are in use to circumvent the issue of losses associated with biotic stress, however, the injudicious use of such hazardous agrochemicals has resulted in their accrual in the food chain that has raised environmental and human health concerns [22,23]. Several research studies have documented the use of essential oils as pesticides.…”

“…These substances interrupt electron transfer in photosystem II, leading to the formation of reactive oxygen species and resulting in cell damage (Liu, 2010). The increased rate of application of xenobiotics such as the phenyl urea herbicides in recent years enhanced their burden to the environment due to their persistence in the surroundings (Hasanuzzaman et al, 2020). These compounds are consistently found to have negative effects on the ecosystem, including hazards to human health (de Souza et al, 2020;Garcês et al, 2020).…”

“…Given concern around the use of herbicides in general (e.g., Hasanuzzaman et al, 2020;Thiour-Mauprivez et al, 2019) and glyphosate in particular (e.g., Farina et al, 2019;Sikorski et al, 2019) and that some studies suggest herbicides may become less effective under elevated CO 2 in the mid-term future (Waryzak et al, 2018), identifying methods of controlling invasive non-native plant species that do not rely solely on herbicides should be considered a priority. Although, it is not suggested that this would be a viable management strategy for landscape-scale infestations, desiccation could be a useful component of a holistic management strategy for smaller infestations that are more typical of residential settings.…”
