Phytotoxic and Nematicidal Components of Lavandula luisieri

Abstract: Several preparations were obtained from the aerial parts of predomesticated Lavandula luisieri, including the essential oil and ethanolic, hexane, and ethyl acetate extractives. Additionally, pilot plant vapor pressure extraction was carried out at a pressure range of 0.5-1.0 bar to give a vapor pressure oil and an aqueous residue. A chemical study of the hexane extract led to the isolation of six necrodane derivatives (1, 2, and 4-7), with four of these (1, 2, 5, and 7) being new, as well as camphor, a cadina… Show more

“…The experiments were conducted with Lactuca sativa cv. Teresa (Fitó, Selva de Mar, Barcelona, Spain), and Lolium perenne (Batlle, Molins de Rei, Barcelona, Spain) seeds, as described [25]. Briefly, 2.5 cm diameter filter paper with 20 µL of the test solution (10 µg/µL for EOs, 5 µg/µL for pure compounds) were placed on 12-well plates (Falcon, Corning, NY, USA) and then 500 µL H 2 O/well and 10/5 seeds ( L. sativa / L. perenne pre-soaked in distilled water for 12 h) were added.…”

“…This plant was adapted to the Cariñena experimental field in 2008 from a Toledo (Spain) wild population. It was cultivated and collected as reported by Julio et al, [34]. Plant material was dried at room temperature, pulverised and sieved.…”

“…According to Buchanan et al [ 45 ], the C-3 and C-4 sterochemistry of cadine-4,10 (15)-dien-3-one derivatives, have an important effect on the insecticidal properties of these compounds, decreasing the activity when the C-4 configuration is R and when the stereochemistry of the 3α-hydroxyl is reversed. Cadinane-type sesquiterpenes also showed antigermination and phytotoxic activity against lettuce and radish seeds [ 45 , 47 , 48 ]. However, 10 was not phytotoxic in our experiments.…”
