Phytotherapeutics in cancer invasion and metastasis

Abstract: Cancer is a multifactorial disease, and therefore, a multitarget approach is needed to face the complex cancer biology, based on the combined use of different natural and synthetic anticancer agents able to target synergistically multiple signaling pathways involved in carcinogenesis, including angiogenesis and metastasis. In this view, the plant kingdom represents an unlimited source of phytotherapeutics with promising perspectives in the field of anticancer drug discovery. This narrative review aims to provi… Show more

“…In recent years, the interest towards induction of apoptosis as a strategy to produce antitumor drugs has increased (Mishra et al, ). Finding an antitumor drug with an apoptosis‐inducing agent and specificity for tumor cells may be ideal (Salehi et al, ). Cytotoxicity of CV towards a human non‐small‐cell lung carcinoma cell line (A549) was reported by Koparal and Zeytinoglu ().…”

“…In this context, thyme possesses numerous compounds and natural antioxidants, which have enormous potential to combat microorganism infections, to enhance immunity, and to be used in therapeutic and management intervention against cancer due to their pharmacological activities (Bagheri, Mirzaei, Mehrabi, & Sharifi‐Rad, ; Salehi et al, ; Sharifi‐Rad, Sureda, et al, ; Sharifi‐Rad, Mnayer, et al, ; Stojanović‐Radić, Pejčić, Stojanović, Sharifi‐Rad, Stanković, ). Thymol and carvacrol are two of its active compounds as commented above.…”

“…Plant products, their enriched-derived extracts, and their isolated bioactive molecules have been increasingly studied due their renowned health attributes, largely used in folk medicine over centuries for multiple purposes [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9]. Indeed, phytomedicine is garnering much attention among the medical and scientific communities [10,11,12].…”
