Kerala is a state on the southwest corner of the Indian peninsula gifted with 44 rivers. Dams have been built across all the major river systems of Kerala in the southern parts of the Western Ghats, creating around 53 reservoirs (Harikumar & Rajendran, 2007). Despite this fact, algal studies are few in the dams of Kerala. In a phycological perspective, only Idukki reservoir (Sebastian & Thomas, 2016), Kanhirapuzha dam (Palaniswamy et al., 2019) and algae from 12 reservoirs of Kerala (Ray et al., 2021) were studied.At all Indian level, many dams studied for algae.

Sengarat fish, with the Latin name Belodontichthys dinema, Bleeker 1851, is a fishery commodity with high economic value and became a proud species of the community and was used as an icon of Riau Province. The current condition is that the existence of Sengarat Fish continues to decline due to overfishing, the use of fishing gear that is not environmentally friendly, and habitat destruction. Therefore, it is necessary to domesticate as an effort to develop sengarat fish into one of the aquaculture commodities. This study aims to determine the ecological value and economic status from the angle of fishing fishers and collecting traders, as well as the public’s interest in sengarat fish farming. The research was conducted in Buluh Nipis Village, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency, in July 2022. The method used is a description analysis obtained from literature, interviews, and surveys. The respondents used for interviews and surveys were ten people with the status of capture fishers and one gathering merchant. The Kampar river environment, which is used as a sengarat fishing ground, has a reasonably good condition but has experienced siltation due to the conversion of land into oil palm plantations along the watershed. Based on interviews, the catch of sengarat fish by fishers has declined over the past five years. This is characterized by not every day sengarat fish caught and only existing in certain months or seasons. The economic status of sengarat fish is high economic fish, characterized by a reasonably high selling price in the market, which ranges from Rp.130,000 to Rp.150,000-per kilogram. The status of sengarat fish farming is that wild fish are still being caught in the country, and there is no technology or effort to cultivate them.

Background and Objective: Belawan River is located in Deli Serdang and Medan Districts, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Belawan River passes through residential areas, industry, steam power plants (PLTU), PDAM and encroachment. Waste is directly discharged into water bodies due to many human activities, so the quality of water and aquatic biota is disturbed. Phytoplankton diversity is influenced by water quality conditions because its existence depends heavily on the water conditions of the Belawan River. Analyzing the model of phytoplankton diversity in the Belawan River was the purpose of this study. Materials and Methods: The analysis was conducted in the form of phytoplankton diversity by obtaining phytoplankton species and their distribution and analyze the environment such as the water quality of the Belawan River. Sampling was taken by purposive random method with 5 different locations with 3 times the test with, namely starting from the upstream, middle and downstream Belawan River area in 2010, 2015 and 2020. Stages of research methods, obtained types of plankton, abundance (A), relative abundance (RA), presence frequency (PF), equitability (E) and diversity (H) and analysis of water quality (temperature, light penetration, light intensity, depth, current speed, salinity, pH, DO, oxygen saturation percent, BOD and COD). Results: Twenty three genera of phytoplankton were found in 2020. Phytoplankton abundance was highest in the Chaetoceros sp., genera with an abundance of 186 ind mG 2 at station 5. Diversity (H) was highest at station 5 at 2.30 and lowest at station 5 at 1.87. Phytoplankton in five stations was relatively low. The DO has a very strong effect on phytoplanktonʼs diversity.
