Phytochimiques des plantes médicinales utilisées dans la prise en charge des maladies infantiles au SudBénin

Abstract: In southern Benin, medicinal plants are used for the health care of children aged 0 to 12 years. The present study aims to highlight some medicinal plants used in southern Benin to treat childhood diseases including malaria, candidiasis, teething disorders, infant colic and diarrhea. The phytochemical screening of the leafy stems of the selected plants revealed the presence of alkaloids, tannins (gallic and catechic), coumarins, anthocyanins and leuco-anthocyans, quinone derivatives, triterpenoids, steroids, s… Show more

“…The best activity of Cyanthilium cinereum was obtained on Candida albicans a1 and Candida glabrata g2. This antifungal activity would be related to the bioactive secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, tannins, coumarins, anthocyanins, leuco anthocyanins identified in the plant (53)(54)(55)(56). Belila and Ounis (57) report that alkaloids possess a broad spectrum of biological activities including antibiotic properties.…”

“…It should be noted that antioxidants are substances that have the ability to prevent the oxidation of various types of molecules in our body such as: lipoproteins, nucleic acids and free radicals [38]. Free radicals are compounds that are continuously generated by the human body due to its own metabolic activity or formed as a result of infections, stress and pollution [39][40]. These free radicals can donate electrons; they are thus endowed with pro-oxidant action [39].…”

“…In Benin no study has been carried out on the species. However, botanical inventory studies record the plant among the species most used by local communities in the treatment of bodily and spiritual diseases (Kouchadé et al, 2017). In the perspective to contribute to the conservation and valorization of this species, this paper aims at assessing the knowledge and uses of A. mexicana in local communities in southern Benin with the following research questions: (1) What ethnobotanic knowledge do local communities have on the use of A. mexicana?…”
