Phytochemistry, GS-MS analysis, and heavy metals composition of aqueous and ethanol stem bark extracts of Ximenia americana

Abstract: Medicinal plants employed in the management of diseases has been attributed to their phytochemical compositions. The present study aimed to investigate the phytochemicals, bioactive, and heavy metals components present in aqueous and ethanol stem bark extracts of Ximenia americana. The phytochemical compositions were qualitatively, and quantitatively determined, followed by the identification of bioactive compounds present. The heavy metals composition was also determined. The result revealed the presence of s… Show more

“…Saponins, oxalates and steroids were not detected in any of Moretologa fruit extracts. Reference [35] however noted the presence of saponins in aqueous and ethanolic extracts of X. americana stem bark and steroids were only detected in the ethanolic extract. Tannins were detected in the other three plant samples except for Morula.…”

“…The compounds present in the plant were detected and identified by a Gas chromatography-mass spectrometer (7890, 5975 Agilent, USA) fitted with a fused silica column (30 X0.25 mm, with 1 µm film thickness). The procedure was as we described previously (29).…”
