Phytochemical screening and HPTLC fingerprint analysis of Pergularia Tomentosa and Priploca Aphylla and evaluation their effects on Promastigotes of Leishmania major under laboratory conditions

Abstract

The present work deals with phytochemical and antiprotozane screening of Pergularia Tomentosa and Priploca Aphylla. Preliminary phytochemical screening was done and HPTLC studies were carried out. Aqueous extracts of the leaves was developed in the mobile phase of tolueneacetoneformic acid (4.5:4.5:1) using standard procedures and scanned under UV at 254 nm, 366 nm and visible light at 540 nm. The in vitro antiprotozoal activity was performed on extracts of Pergularia Tomentosa and Priploca Aphylla in petroleum ether, chloroform, acetone, ethanol, methanol and water against Promastigotes of Leishmania major. The organic and aqueous extracts of leaves of the plant at a concentrations of "800, 600, 400, 200, 100 and 50µg/ml were taken and their activities were measured. The results revealed that all the extracts had approximately same degree of anti-Leishmania major activity but aqueous extract has more advantages than organic extracts due to its low side-effect, environment-Phytochemical…..
