Phytochemical Profile and Biological Activities of Helianthemum canum l. baumg. from Turkey

Abstract: In the current study, antioxidant, antibacterial activities, and the phenolic compositions of extracts from Helianthemum canum L. Baumg. (Apiaceae) aerial parts were investigated for the first time. The H. canum was extracted with 70% methanol (HCMeOH) and water (HCW). Both extracts were determined by total phenolic contents (3 mg/ml), flavonoids (1.5 mg/ml), flavonols (1.5 mg/ml), qualitative-quantitative compositions, iron (II) chelation activities (0.1 - 5 mg/ml), free radical scavenging activities (DPPH : … Show more

“…In our previous HPLC analysis of Helianthemum canum extracts, we detected several compounds including gallic acid, 3,5‐dihydroxy‐benzoic acid, 3,4‐dihydroxybenzoic acid, methyl gallate, 4‐hydroxybenzoic acid, apigenin‐7‐O‐glucoside, and luteolin‐7‐O‐glucoside. The quantities of these compounds were measured, and the primary compound, 3,5‐dihydroxybenzoic acid, was quantified at 6.669 and 23.088 mg/g in methanol and water extracts, respectively [18] …”

“…Except for p-hydroxybenzoic acid (1) and plantainoside B (8), the remaining compounds are flavonoid derivatives. Compounds 1-5 were already identified in species of the genus Helianthemum, including Helianthemum canum, Helianthemum sessiflorum, Helianthemum glomeratum, and Helianthemum ruficomum [14][15][16][17][18]. However, quercetin-3-Oglucoside (6), quercetin-3-O-glucuronide (7), and plantainoside B (8) have never been reported in any species of Helianthemum [19].…”
