The natural compound Genkwanin (systematic name: 5-hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-7-methoxychromen-4-one) C16H12O5 (1) is a non-glycosylated flavonoid isolated from Callicarpa americana. Microcrystals of Genkwanin were prepared by slow evaporation of a methanol solution under low temperature conditions. The structure of 1 was determined based on spectroscopic analyses, one-dimensional NMR, HRESIMS and was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystals grow as very thin needles with an extremely high aspect ratio and with the long axis (along the y-axis) corresponding to the very short unit cell b-axis. There are two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit with two different conformations and modes of packing in the crystal. One molecule has a higher degree on non-planarity than the other. The short stacking distance and separation between the molecules implies a high degree of co-planarity consistent with a conjugated system. The crystal structure is non-centrosymmetric but achiral.

Objective: This work is intended to provide you with information about pharmacognosy, herbs and medicinal plants Echinops L., structured from the main issues, such as macro-morphological features of organs leaves, to the deeper and more challenging questions, pharmacognosy as the analysis of active ingredients and other substances or compounds use and healing properties. Methods: Pieces of leaves were boiled on chloral hydrate solution - water (1:1) for 5-10 minutes to enlightenment. Then, the study objects were placed on a slide in a drop of glycerol and separated into two parts with dissecting needle. The object was covered with a cover glass. The object was viewed from both sides with the microscope. First, the object was viewed with a small (×180), then at high (×720), an increase by MS-300 microscope (MICROS, Austria) on the technique of microscopic and microchemical studies of medicinal plants. Results: This manuscript is intended to provide you with information about pharmacognosy, herbs and medicinal plants Echinops L., structured from the main issues, such as macro-morphological features of organs leaves, to the deeper and more challenging questions, pharmacognosy as the analysis of active ingredients and other substances or compounds use and healing properties. Conclusion: This work is offered as a study on the biological characteristics of medicinal plants to identify diagnostic markers and signs for the standardization of herbal medicines.

Phytochemical and Analytical Characterization of Constituents from Fagopyrum esculentum

Fagopyrum esculentum (buckwheat) is an annual herb that is commonly cultivated in Vietnam for ornamental and food purposes. Previous studies also indicated the medicinal potential of the plant due to its high content of bioactive compounds. However, every year, more than 300 ha of buckwheat cultivation has been discarded after flower festival in North Vietnam. The present study was conducted to clarify the main chemical constituents of F. esculentum aerial parts collected in Ha Giang, Vietnam. The investigation has led to the isolation and identification of nine compounds, specifically flavonoids (rutin, quercetin, quercetin 3-O-rhamnopyranoside, quercetin 3-O-galactopyranoside), lignan (isolariciresinol), phenylpropanoids linking with sucrose (lapathoside A, lapathoside D) and phytosterols (β-sitosterol, and daucosterol). An HPLC quantification method of the major component of F. esculentum leaves, rutin, was also developed. The optimized condition was performed on a Shimadzu LC-20D HPLC system; Shim-pack GIST C18 column (4.6 mm × 250 mm × 5 µm); eluting solvent system (0-20 min:16-26% acetonitrile in water containing 0.1% formic acid); injection volume 20 μL; flow rate 1.2 mL/ min; column temperature 35°C; UV wavelength 254 nm. The method was also validated by various parameters, including linearity (R 2 = 0.9995), precision (6 samples; RSD= 1.58%), accuracy (recover rates from 94.4 to 103.9%), limit of detection (LOD= 0.049 μg/mL), limit of quantification (LOQ = 0.147 μg/mL). The analytical results showed that the content of rutin in leaf and flower samples were 1.794 ± 0.002% and 1.137 ± 0.002% , respectively.
