Physiological, Transcriptomic Investigation on the Tea Plant Growth and Yield Motivation by Chitosan Oligosaccharides

Abstract: Chitosan oligosaccharides (COS) has been abundantly studied for its application on regulating plant growth of many horticultural and agricultural crops. We presented here the effect of COS on tea plant growth and yield by physiological and transcriptomic checking. The results showed that COS treatment can enhance the antioxidant activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) and increase the content of chlorophyll and soluble sugar in tea plants. The field trail results show that COS treatment can… Show more

“…Taken together, our results point to a rapid and significant activation of pea genes involved in regulation of host defense responses, induced by CO8-DA, in accordance with previous findings for chitin-related compounds in Arabidopsis, rice, potato, tea (Chen et al, 2020;Lemke et al, 2020;Siriwong et al, 2021;Ichimaru et al, 2022;Ou et al, 2022). We have shown that a set of genes encoding specific enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of phytoalexins and other secondary metabolites was up-regulated in response to CO8-DA, that was in line with previous findings in other plants (Vasyukova et al, 2001;Khan et al, 2003;Zhang et al, 2020).…”

“…The pea plant treatment with CO8-DA stimulated the synthesis of such components as lignins, reinforcing the cell wall. Similar effect of COs was previously shown in rice and tea ( Siriwong et al., 2021 ; Ou et al., 2022 ).…”

“…It has been reported that COS induced extracellular Ca 2+ influx and increased the resistance of tobacco against the tobacco mosaic virus [ 32 ]. Moreover, COS increased the activity of calcium-dependent protein kinase (CDPK) in Brassica napus [ 33 ] and up-regulated the expression of CDPK7 and CDPK26 in Arabidopsis [ 34 ]. Increased concentration of intracellular Ca 2+ activated CDPK, and the interaction of CDPK and NOX induced ROS bursts at tuber wounds [ 3 ].…”

“…Li et al (2022b) found that the application of physcion and COS combination is more effective in facilitating the SOD, POD activities of the maize plants, resulting in plants with high stress resistance. Ou et al (2022) reported that COS could enhance the antioxidant activity of SOD and POD in tea plants.…”
