“…After acclimation (15 days) fish were sorted to one of four treatments (20 fish per treatment), in a completely randomized experimental design: control – C (without anaesthesia or stress), anaesthesia – A (deep anaesthesia induced by 50 mg/L clove oil), stress – S (5 min air exposure) and pre‐anaesthesia associated to stress A + S (deep anaesthesia induced by clove oil prior the 5 min air exposure). The induction to deep anaesthesia was conducted as described previously for the same species and the fish were stressed by 5‐min air exposure (Pereira‐da‐Silva & Oliveira, ; Pereira‐da‐Silva et al, ).…”

“…Fish receiving treatment A (anaesthesia) were individually captured and anaesthetized (deep anaesthesia) with clove oil diluted in water at a concentration of 50 mg/L and then transferred to their experimental units, where they remained for 30 min (Pereira‐da‐Silva & Oliveira, ) and the same procedures described for the control group were performed, submitting the fish only to a light sedation with clove oil for biometry and blood collection (Pereira‐da‐Silva et al, ). Fish receiving treatment S (stress) were captured and immediately subjected to an acute stressor (5 min air exposure) (Pereira‐da‐Silva & Oliveira, ; Pereira‐da‐Silva, Oliveira, & Del Nero, ) and fish receiving treatment A + S (anaesthesia prior to stress) were anaesthetized (deep anaesthesia) before exposure to air. In these treatments, fish were also placed back into their experimental units where they were kept for 30 min prior to tissue collection for the same assays previously described.…”

“…In the ovary, vitellogenin is captured by receptor‐mediated endocytosis and processed into several other components of the yolk (Yilmaz et al., ). There are many studies in the past decades that have evaluated the contribution of the liver to oogenesis through variation of biological indices, such as the hepatosomatic index (Alvarenga, Bazzoli, Santos, & Rizzo, ; Hauser‐Davis, Oliveira, Silveira, Silva, & Ziolli, ; Pereira‐da‐Silva & Oliveira, );. These indices measure the relationship between the weight of the organ and the individual.…”
